Job Description
“Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic legal advice on employment law matters, including hiring, termination, compensation, benefits, and workplace policies.
Ensure compliance with Canadian employment legislation, including the Canada Labour Code, provincial employment standards, human rights laws, and privacy regulations.
Draft, review, and update employment policies and internal procedures.
Advise on workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Work with our internal employee litigation group to directly handle or manage outside counsel in connection with employment-related disputes, negotiations, mediations, and litigation.
Monitor and interpret changes in employment laws and provide training and guidance to HR and management teams.
Support HR in handling accommodations, diversity and inclusion initiatives, workplace safety, and employee relations matters.
Collaborate with global legal and HR teams to align employment practices with corporate policies and international labor standards.
Provide pre-acquisition due diligence and post-merger integration advice, ensuring compliance with employment laws and smooth workforce transitions.
Basic Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited institution.
Licensed to practice law in Canada, with strong knowledge of federal and provincial employment laws.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in employment law
Strong understanding of workplace investigations, dispute resolution, and employment litigation.
Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
English is required for this position as this role will regularly interact with stakeholders across Canada, US and other countries across our Global footprint where English is the common language. Due to the significant high volume of interactions with these English-speaking stakeholders, which is inherent to this position, it is not possible to reorganize the company’s activities to avoid this requirement.
Preferred Qualification:
Extensive experience in employment law with prior responsibility in a corporation for all Canadian employment law operations.”
